I received a Canon PowerShot digital camera on Christmas 2001. The
following year I took the camera with me when Rob and I travelled to Taiwan and Australia. Maybe
it's the light in the tropics...but my digital pictures turned out with an unexpected sharpness and luminosity that
I never saw in my past photography experiences.
We now live in San Diego, and I continue to take photos of my local scene. I hope my visitors enjoy
my work.
During my travels I also wrote a number of dispatches to friends and family
back home. I have included them in these pages, hoping to provide some context to the photographs. I have to thank my
two main sources of reference (when one is travelling and writing at the same time, concise references are crucial):
I especially recommend that if you are going to Australia, buy these two
books immediately. In fact, where Bryson's books are concerned, they are all so amusing and so finely written that I'd
recommend that you buy a couple just to read.
